IPRMSA Bi-Annual General Meeting had been held on 27th January 2011 on 8.00 p.m at DKA1. During that day, new election was held to give the opportunity to the student to elect their representative for new committee. LAUNCH OF IPRM EDUCATORS’ CHAPTER

The Education Committee of Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) launched the IPRM Educators’ Chapter on Thursday, 21 October 2010. The event was held at Dewan Bestari, Wisma Sime Darby, Kuala Lumpur and was launched by Dato’ Mohd Hamdan Haji Adnan, IPRM President. Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur, chair of the IPRM Education Committee said the IPRM Educators’ Chapter will encourage participation and collaboration among educators from Malaysian universities and private colleges, as well as internationally, in the areas of research and publications between educators and the industry to advance the profession and public relations knowledge. It will also work with IPRM student chapters (IPRMSA) on student public relations projects. Among those who participated in the event were public relations educators, IPRM members, representatives from IPRM Student Associations and other public relations practitioners.

Launch of IPRM Educators' Chapter

The Education Committee of Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) is launching the IPRM Educators' Chapter on Thursday, 21st October 2010. This event is a platform to create awareness about the new IPRM Educators' Chapter. The Chapter will work towards promoting collaboration on research and publication between public relations educators and practitioners to advance the public relations professions.

The event will be officiated by Dato' Mohd Hamdan Adnan, President, Institute of Public Relations Malaysia, Various IPTA/IPTS will also will be participating in the event. There will also be a discussion on collaboration between members of the Educators' chapter and IPRM student associations in various universities. OVERVIEW OF EVENT: MARCH 27^TH, 2010 SATURDAY
Saturday, 27^th March 2010 – Final year semester five (5) student from of Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons.) (Public Relations) and the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students’ Association, IPRMSA-UiTM Chapter organized a national seminar on

“Creativity and Innovation: The Role of Public Relations”.

The seminar was held on 27^th March 2010 (Saturday) from 9.00 am till 5.00 pm at Auditorium Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM Shah Alam.

The seminar was attended by 250 participations from practitioners, academicians and also students from various IPTA and IPTS. The seminar started as soon as Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Community and Industrial Networking, Universiti Teknologi MARA came in to the auditorium lead by Megat Shah Hamerul, who played the bagpipe as a signal to announce the ceremony was about to begin.

After emcee announced the arrival of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and other VIPs the seminar start with the welcomed addressed by emcee to all the speakers, guests, lecturers, students and peoples in the hall. A short doa recited by Muhamad Nurafiq Bin Zazali to blessed the whole day of the seminar.

The participants of the national seminar on “Creativity and Innovation: The Roles of Public

Relations”

Before moving on to the presentation of the speakers Student Project Director, Syahidah Ismail delivered welcome speech to the all guest and participants.

After that, Dean of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Professor Dr. Mohd Adnan Hashim delivered his speech to all guest and participants.

Later on, the seminar followed by speech from Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Community and Industrial Networking, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun.

After the three (3) speeches done, the opening gimmick and launching of the seminar started. The seminar was officiated and launched by Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Industrial Networking), Universiti Teknologi MARA. The gimmick for the official launching was act upon the Vice Chancellor released off the balloons and a flash presentation was played for the participants about the overview of the seminar. A token of appreciation was given to Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Industrial Networking) after he officiated and launched the seminar.

As the opening and launching of the seminar ended, the seminar continued with presentation of Best Public Relations Student Award by the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM). Dato’ Mohd Hamdan Adnan, President of IPRM was invited to the stage to present the awards to the nominated students. The recipients of the best public relations awards were selected based on their academic grades, their contribution and commitment to IPRMSA, and their personality and attitude.

The best Public Relations Student Award for the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Chapter was Sara Tasya Mohd Tajudin, for International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Chapter was Noraisyah Abdan. Meanwhile for University Utara Malaysia (UUM) Chapter was Bakialetchumy a/p Tanasikaran and the recipients for University Sains Malaysia (USM) Chapter was Ng See Kee, final year student. Yet, IPRMSA-HELP College Chapter did not nominate any recipient.

As the awards ceremony ended, the seminar begins with the first presentation, a keynote address by Dato’ Shaik Sulaiman Hj. Ismail, Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation (MACRI) on his knowledge and insights of “Creativity and Innovation: The Role of Public Relations.”

Before moving to the highlights, Dato’ Shaik Sulaiman Hj. Ismail was given token of appreciation on his contribution towards the seminar.

After the first presentation ended, the seminar took 15 minutes break for the morning refreshments.

As the short break over, the seminar moved to the next highlights which are the panel presentation. The moderator for the first panel, Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur from UiTM introduced the speakers to the participants, before the speakers made their presentation on the first panel titled, “Green Public Relations: Creativity and Innovation for Sustainability.”

Then the first presentation was delivered by Mr. Azlan Pa’wan, CEO of Thinker Box Production, followed by Dr. Amerjit Singh, Public Relations Officer from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and last presentation for the first topic was delivered by Mr. Rajan Moses, Managing Director of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Kuala Lumpur. Each of the speakers was given fifteen minutes to delivered their own style and theme for the presentation on the topic.

After all of the three (3) speakers done with their presentation, a questions and answers session was open to the floor.

As soon as the first panel concluded, the second session started with an introduction of second panel speakers by the moderator Dr. Jamilah Hj. Ahmad from School of Communication USM. The second panel title was “Galvanizing Social Media for Creativity and Innovation in Public Relations Practice.” After the introductory of the speakers, the first speaker for the second panel was Mr. Jeffrey McClure, Director of Digital Media from Prestige Communications Sdn Bhd gave his presentation and later followed by Aisha Rashid, Chairman of SAMANEA PR Sdn Bhd.

On the evening, the last session was on the Student Presentation called the “Free Thots Sessions” titled Public Relations as a Champion for Creativity and Innovation in Organizations moderated by Muhamad Nurafiq Bin Zazali.

All of the presentation was evaluated and judged by Tuan Hj Aznan from International Islamic University Malaysia Miss Baby Anusha from Universiti Teknologi MARA and also Miss Joana Jaya from Lim Kok Wing.

The best presentation for Free Thots Sessions” was received by Asil Esaam Gheebllawi from Universiti Teknologi MARA for the first place, followed by Sallehin Mokhtar from Universiti Teknologi MARA second place and third place was Tengku Nurhafizah from International Islamic University Malaysia.

After announcing the winners for the student presentations, all of the judges were invited to the stage to receive the token of appreciation for the seminar.

Before the whole event concluded, Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur was invited to give her resolutions for the seminar.

The closing of the ceremony was done by Miss Melina Mahpuz, Head of Public Relations Programme by delivered her closing speech. The seminar closed with the emcee thanks all the sponsors, guests, lecturers, practitioners and students who attend the seminar. Then everybody was guided outside of the auditorium for the evening refreshments and at 5 o’clock the event ends.

COGNITO COMMUNICATIONS COUNSELLORS Dikunjungi UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA, MALAYSIA Untuk Studi

Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, melakukan studi komparatif mengenai industri public relations (PR) ke perusahaan konsultan PR Cognito Communications Counsellors, Jakarta. Bertujuan untuk lebih mendapatkan wawasan internasional, sejumlah 32 mahasiswa dan mahasiswi serta 5 dosen pengajar dari Fakultas Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA, ini berada di Jakarta sejak 31 Maret - 2 April 2010.

Rombongan dari Universiti dari kota Selangor di Malaysia ini melakukan diskusi dengan para praktisi senior PR dari Cognito Communications tentang perkembangan industri PR saat ini di Indonesia. Berbagai isu yang dibahas mencakup tentang pertumbuhan industri PR, tantangan yang dihadapi dalam industri baik bagi in-housePR maupun perusahaan konsultan PR, usaha-usaha yang telah dilakukan untuk menghadapi tantangan tersebut termasuk usulan tentang standarisasi kualifikasi praktisi PR, serta isu-isu relevan lainnya.

Baby Anusha Nur Binti Mohamed Thaheer, dosen di Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA, menyatakan alasan tentang pemilihan tujuan kunjungan ke Cognito, “Alasan kami memilih Cognito adalah dikarenakan portofolio para klien Cognito yang sangat impresif serta pengalaman luasnya dalam bekerja sama dengan berbagai perusahaan besar baik lokal maupun multinasional.” Oleh karenanya, Cognito -- yang dinobatkan sebagai PR Agency of the Year 2006 oleh majalah Cakram ini -- dianggap sebagai perusahaan PR yang tepat untuk studi komparatif dalam menambah wawasan para siswa.

Yanti Pramudya, Managing Director, Cognito Communications, mengatakan, “Kami gembira dipilih sebagai satu-satunya PR konsultan yang dikunjungi, hal ini menunjukkan apresiasi terhadap performance Cognito yang telah dibangun selama hampir satu dasa warsa ini. Para anggota tim Cognito pun juga mendapatkan insights yang berharga serta menambah wawasan tentang industri PR di Malaysia melalui program ini.”

Megat Shah Hamerul Bin Megat Mohd Yusof mengatakan, ”Cognito ikut memberi kontribusi dalam meningkatkan image tentang praktek PR di Indonesia. Kami harap dapat bertemu dan bekerja sama dengan mereka saat kami telah bergabung di industri PR.”

Dalam rangka melakukan program studi komparatif ini, selain ke Cognito Commmunications, para siswa dan dosen Universiti Teknologi MARA juga mengunjungi dua institusi pendidikan yakni, Universitas Indonesia dan London School of PR, keduanya dipilih karena merupakan institusi pendidikan terkemuka di Indonesia yang juga memiliki fokus dalam PR.

Hi guys! Have you heard of this 'Duo Project'? Hmm.. Come, let's see what it is all about..

"Duo Project" is a project organized by Semester two (2) and four (4) students of Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons.) Public Relations. It is called as 'duo project' because it is a combination of two projects which are the Academic Mission & Community Service. These are the bi- annual event held by the IPRMSA UiTM Shah Alam.

This Duo Project was officiated by Prof. Madya Ilias Md. Salleh, Program Coordinator of Public Relations (MC222) UiTM Shah Alam. This event was an effort in giving exposure to our students in strategizing for interaction with various publics and also to sharpen the students' leadership skills and talent.

During the event, all Semester two students went to Rumah Titian Kaseh for community service and Semester four students stayed on the site for academic mission.

The academic mission consists of group work activities (LDK) such as ice- breaking session, science experiments and discussion on safety and security. The activities became more interesting with the existence of visual and audio aids.

Rumah Titian Kaseh is a shelter home for single mothers and orphans. Therefore, the target audience of this event are the residents of Rumah Titian Kaseh who are still in primary and secondary school. This mission acts as a medium for both students and participants in sharpening their communication and interaction skill, strengthening their leadership and teamwork as well as disseminating information in the form of effective and interactive learning.

With this, we would like to congratulate to all Semester 2 and 4 PR students upon your success in organizing such a wholesome and momentous event!

Hey there awesome PR people!

It's a brand new semester and a new beginning for some of us (especially to those in part 1 and part 3). So, it is a tradition for our club/chapter to start off this new semester with our annual AGM and Alhamdulillah it went smoothly. The highlights of the meeting were the speeches given by our ex-president, Tasnim Abdul Hadi (who gave a very uplifting speech to all of us PR students) and Izad Ismail Abdullah who eloquently gave us an in-depth experience of the part 6 students who went off and did their practical training last semester (and boy was it fun to hear the opportunities that we would get when we enter that stage especially the part where we get paid :P).

Some may ask why do we have to attend this meeting every year and the answer is simple. It's not just to listen to the Dean or the club president's speech; it's more of an early get-together for all of us where we voice out our opinions/ideas or even complaints and exercise our right to vote for a new committee members. So why don't we change our perception this time around and let's make it a point to attend OUR club meeting with an open heart and have fun while we're there...

IPRMSA Annual General Meeting 2009

It’s back. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2009 will be held as per following:

Time : 12 noon until 2 pm

FKPM Student Achievement Award - Part 2

IPRMSA were honored to have another award presented to its member during the "Majlis Anugerah Sanjungan Pelajar FKPM" recently.

Mohd Shazreeq Alhadi of Class 4C was chosen as Best Athlete for the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies due to his immense contribution to the faculty in the sporting arena.

A triple gold medalist during the recently concluded Inter-Faculty Games (SAF), Mohd Shazreeq helped the bowling team to sweep all the medals offered in the men's event.

As captain of the faculty's contingent, his experiences as an UiTM athlete at major events such as International Sports Fiesta (ISF) and Arafura Games certainly helped our faculty to break the monopoly enjoyed by other powerhouses such as Faculty of Sports Sciences and Faculty of Business Management.

Congratulations on his award and good luck with your future games, Shazreeq!

On the 30th of August 2008 (Merdeka Eve), two of our friends were honored for their role in students activities in the faculty.

They were:

2. Outstanding Member Award - Tasnim Abd Hadi

Asyraf is currently the President of IPRMSA-UiTM Chapter,
whereas Tasnim is the Vice Secretary of IPRMSA-UiTM Chapter.

Public Relations Education Landscape in Malaysia

The Faculty of Communication & Media Studies and the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Student Association (IPRMSA - final year students) will gather public relations experts, academicians, students, practitioners, government regulators, IPRM members, and prospective employers to explore issues on the "Public Relations Education Landscape in Malaysia". The seminar is set to take place on October 22, 2008 at UiTM International Centre in UiTM Shah Alam. The seminar aims to showcase and discuss the current status of public relations education in Malaysia and other issues related to it.
In conjunction with the seminar, the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) will officially launch the IPRM Public Relations Educators' Chapter, a group which is represented by lecturers from the various universities and colleges teaching Public Realtions programmes, and the primary objectives of the chapter are to improve and standardize the Public Relations programme curriculum in Malaysia, as well as promote research and publications in the field.

MASS MEDIA & CIVIL SOCIETY EVENT

Student of Bachelor Of Mass Communication in Public Relations (Hons) part 4, is organising an exhibition with the Non Government Organisations (NGOs) to educate public about their rights and bringing the NGOs closer to the public.

The event starts on 28^th of August 2008 from 9.00 a.m till 4.00 p.m at Dataran Cendikia UiTM Shah Alam. The theme is Mass Media & Civil Society.

Booth from the NGOs which are Service Civil International (SCI), All Women Action Society (AWAM) and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be set up on that day. AWAM also will be giving a mini talk on that day.

Special screening of Al Gore Inconvenient Truth, talent casting and games are expected to thrill this event.

All people are invited to join this event.

Comm Patrol UiTM Road Tour

A supporting act to complement the upcoming Karnival FKPM, Comm Patrol UiTM Road Tour is set up to publicize and to create hype all around UiTM about the carnival and all the other events that will also be held in its conjunction.
Part of the course requirement of the subject Publicity & Event Management, a specially decorated car will 'patrol' UiTM and its vicinity on 26th of August to distribute fliers, goodie bags and other merchandises to create excitement and awareness about the event.
