Post publicity for the national seminar on "Creativity and Innovation: The Role of Public Relations"

OVERVIEW OF EVENT: MARCH 27TH, 2010 SATURDAY
Saturday, 27
th March 2010 – Final year semester five (5) student from of Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons.) (Public Relations) and the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students’ Association, IPRMSA-UiTM Chapter organized a national seminar on

Creativity and Innovation: The Role of Public Relations.

The seminar was held on 27th March 2010 (Saturday) from 9.00 am till 5.00 pm at Auditorium Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM Shah Alam.


The seminar was attended by 250 participations from practitioners, academicians and also students from various IPTA and IPTS. The seminar started as soon as Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Community and Industrial Networking, Universiti Teknologi MARA came in to the auditorium lead by Megat Shah Hamerul, who played the bagpipe as a signal to announce the ceremony was about to begin.


After emcee announced the arrival of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and other VIPs the seminar start with the welcomed addressed by emcee to all the speakers, guests, lecturers, students and peoples in the hall. A short doa recited by Muhamad Nurafiq Bin Zazali to blessed the whole day of the seminar.

Before moving on to the presentation of the speakers Student Project Director, Syahidah Ismail delivered welcome speech to the all guest and participants.


After that, Dean of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Professor Dr. Mohd Adnan Hashim delivered his speech to all guest and participants.


Later on, the seminar followed by speech from Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Community and Industrial Networking, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun.


After the three (3) speeches done, the opening gimmick and launching of the seminar started. The seminar was officiated and launched by Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Industrial Networking), Universiti Teknologi MARA. The gimmick for the official launching was act upon the Vice Chancellor released off the balloons and a flash presentation was played for the participants about the overview of the seminar. A token of appreciation was given to Professor Dr. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Industrial Networking) after he officiated and launched the seminar.


As the opening and launching of the seminar ended, the seminar continued with presentation of Best Public Relations Student Award by the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM). Dato’ Mohd Hamdan Adnan, President of IPRM was invited to the stage to present the awards to the nominated students. The recipients of the best public relations awards were selected based on their academic grades, their contribution and commitment to IPRMSA, and their personality and attitude.


The best Public Relations Student Award for the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Chapter was Sara Tasya Mohd Tajudin, for International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Chapter was Noraisyah Abdan. Meanwhile for University Utara Malaysia (UUM) Chapter was Bakialetchumy a/p Tanasikaran and the recipients for University Sains Malaysia (USM) Chapter was Ng See Kee, final year student. Yet, IPRMSA-HELP College Chapter did not nominate any recipient.


As the awards ceremony ended, the seminar begins with the first presentation, a keynote address by Dato’ Shaik Sulaiman Hj. Ismail, Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation (MACRI) on his knowledge and insights of “Creativity and Innovation: The Role of Public Relations.”


Before moving to the highlights, Dato’ Shaik Sulaiman Hj. Ismail was given token of appreciation on his contribution towards the seminar.


After the first presentation ended, the seminar took 15 minutes break for the morning refreshments.


As the short break over, the seminar moved to the next highlights which are the panel presentation. The moderator for the first panel, Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur from UiTM introduced the speakers to the participants, before the speakers made their presentation on the first panel titled, “Green Public Relations: Creativity and Innovation for Sustainability.”


Then the first presentation was delivered by Mr. Azlan Pa’wan, CEO of Thinker Box Production, followed by Dr. Amerjit Singh, Public Relations Officer from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and last presentation for the first topic was delivered by Mr. Rajan Moses, Managing Director of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Kuala Lumpur. Each of the speakers was given fifteen minutes to delivered their own style and theme for the presentation on the topic.


After all of the three (3) speakers done with their presentation, a questions and answers session was open to the floor.


As soon as the first panel concluded, the second session started with an introduction of second panel speakers by the moderator Dr. Jamilah Hj. Ahmad from School of Communication USM. The second panel title was “Galvanizing Social Media for Creativity and Innovation in Public Relations Practice.” After the introductory of the speakers, the first speaker for the second panel was Mr. Jeffrey McClure, Director of Digital Media from Prestige Communications Sdn Bhd gave his presentation and later followed by Aisha Rashid, Chairman of SAMANEA PR Sdn Bhd.

Both speakers also were given fifteen minutes to give their knowledge, views, opinions and perceptions on the topic. They both delivered their presentation with their own style and charisma.


After both of the speaker done with their presentation, a questions and answers session was open to the floor. Then as the second panel presentations finished, all of the speakers and moderator were invited to the stage to receive their token of appreciation. Later, guests and participants were invited for lunch.


On the evening, the last session was on the Student Presentation called the “Free Thots Sessions” titled Public Relations as a Champion for Creativity and Innovation in Organizations moderated by Muhamad Nurafiq Bin Zazali.


The student presentations were presented by nine (9) students from;

  3. Tengku Nurhafizah IIUM
  4. Sallehin Mokhtar UiTM
  5. Suganti Baskaren UUM
  6. Ng See Kee USM
  7. Asil Esaam Gheebllawi UiTM
  8. Abdulrahman Abdulsalam IKIP International Colllege
  9. Bakialetchumy Tanasikaran UUM


All of the presentation was evaluated and judged by
Tuan Hj Aznan from International Islamic University Malaysia Miss Baby Anusha from Universiti Teknologi MARA and also Miss Joana Jaya from Lim Kok Wing.


The best presentation for Free Thots Sessions” was received by Asil Esaam Gheebllawi from Universiti Teknologi MARA for the first place, followed by Sallehin Mokhtar from Universiti Teknologi MARA second place and third place was Tengku Nurhafizah from International Islamic University Malaysia.


After announcing the winners for the student presentations, all of the judges were invited to the stage to receive the token of appreciation for the seminar.


Before the whole event concluded, Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur was invited to give her resolutions for the seminar.


The closing of the ceremony was done by Miss Melina Mahpuz, Head of Public Relations Programme by delivered her closing speech. The seminar closed with the emcee thanks all the sponsors, guests, lecturers, practitioners and students who attend the seminar. Then everybody was guided outside of the auditorium for the evening refreshments and at 5 o’clock the event ends.
